My First: Mothers Day

A lot of focus is placed on a baby’s firsts. The first word, first steps and rightly so. But parents experience a lot of firsts too.

Yesterday was my first Mothers Day.

I was emotional, obviously because it doesn’t really take much these days, but I had the most lovely day.

My morning was spent at home with Luke and Esmée. They both bought me the most beautiful Alex Monroe Baby Bee gold necklace and I have a card that I will treasure always.

Both me and Luke are big family people, even more so now that we have Esmée. She has brought both of our family’s together in the most amazing way so this year is the year that many traditions will begin. Starting with Mother’s Day.

We all went out for lunch together, to not just celebrate our own mums, but all the mums in our family and the amazing unit that we have thanks to each and every one of them.

From mine and Luke’s mums, my nan and his sisters. This family would not be what it was without them. They have each played a part in making us who we are and for me, Luke and Esmée in particular, we would not have managed the past few months without each and every one of them.

Lunch was followed by more family time with an unexpectedly cold, spring walk and the whole day was full of laughs, love and memories, which in my book, is all you can ask for.

My own mum is one of the most special people in my life. I know many people say it, and it can feel a little cliché, but we grew up extremely close and she really is my best friend.

She has been through the unimaginable when we lost my brother just over 2 years ago and whilst I can never imagine how hard that must be for her, having my own child I can now understand on a new level. She is the strongest person in my life and does everything she can for us.

Mum, you are the most amazing woman I will ever have the privilege of having in my life and if I can be half the mum that you are then I know Esmée will have a happy life.

Happy Mothers day to all the mums out there, I hope everyone had the most wonderful day yesterday full of love.
